About the Course

Introduction to LGBTQ Studies

Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, this course examines the intersections of queer identity and culture, highlighting the contributions of queer and trans people of color. Students will engage with research-driven creative practices, exploring analytical and creative modalities together to challenge how we understand queer and feminist theory. Through critical analysis of queer media, art, and film, students will explore representations and the influence of visual, sonic, and digital culture on LGBTQ identities. The course will investigate concepts that inspire students to imagine and construct alternative futures that embrace diversity and resilience. Students will critically engage with the complexities of LGBTQ experiences and expressions while developing their own research-informed-art-practice.
